How much money can a Esthetician/Skin care specialist make?

Fairyfriend asked:

I am a massage therapist. It is too hard on me to work full time.
I am checking out schools for esthetician . The schools are telling me that I can make 40 to 70 thousand a year with this degree alone but I know that they sometimes exadurate, does anyone know what kind of work I could get and what the potential income is?

Well my friend got a job in LA at a really elite spa and she makes just about 65 thousand a year and then she works in her home too and that brings her more money.

I work at a resort an make about 50,000…the massage therapists make more though:) You only make good money if you work somewhere that you are busy like hotels…or if you are patient and can build a clientelle

The amount you make would depend on things like, the type of spa you are in, how quickly you can build a clientel, the area you live in, and how many hours a week that you work. I was in a luxury salon in a large upper-middle class (avg home cost was $350,000) area in IL and the estheticians in our area were only making about $35,000 a year. But an established esthetician in nearby Chicago would make double that easily.
